Do I need a website?

5 reasons a website is STILL crucial to your business success

It’s 2019 and now more than ever social media such as Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest are pivotal in your business success, however, having a functioning, informative and converting website is still key to the overall success of your business.

You will hear many opinions on the above statement with some people saying a website is now redundant and that your business can rely on social media alone to drive traffic to your business.

Relying on social media for the sole success of your business is fatally flawed and below are the top 5 reasons why your business needs a website today more than ever.

  • A professional website builds trust.

How often do you buy something online or book a service without visiting a website?  For most people, it’s a matter of seeing something on a social media platform and then heading to the website to find out more information.  This is also the same for other businesses who want to collaborate with you.  Would you really do business with someone that didn’t have a website?  For example…you need to hire a security firm for a big event; are you more likely to hire the one with the website or the one that only uses Facebook?

  • You control the content on your website.

Unlike social media your content is your content.  You control what people see when they visit your website.  With social media, you are one in a billion and are only seen by those the platform chooses to see you i.e. you must fight through the advertisements and competitors to be seen clearly.

  • You own your website.

Unless you are on the board of directors of Facebook or Instagram etc., you have absolutely no idea what is going on behind the scenes with those companies and no idea when they might fold.  If Facebook was to fold tomorrow there would be millions of small businesses that would fold immediately.  Are you really prepared to be one of them?  Yes, it is unlikely but ten years ago we all thought My Space was here to stay….

  • A website helps you sell locally.

Regardless of the type of business you have, you are leaving money on the table if you are not selling to your local market.  A website helps you to sell globally however it also helps you to sell locally.  Most people will shop around and look for information well in advance of making a local purchase.  Your website provides them with the chance to find out all about you and your business without ever leaving home.  In most industries, there are the big players and the small players and most local businesses are the small players however a website allows you to play hard ball 24/7 and compete with the big players in your industry.

  • It works when you don’t!

You are human and you need to take a break at some point.  Your website works when you don’t, won’t or can’t.  Whether it’s products or services you sell, your website will continue to do so 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  It also allows you to provide additional information for clients that are searching for a business or product after hours.  Instead of being able to pick up the phone to you at 11pm they can view your site, make a booking or buy a product all while you were tucked up in bed.  How many times have you purchased online in the late hours of night or early morning…your customers are no different.

A well-built website isn’t only about design it is as importantly about converting visitors to subscribers and customers and your marketing plan needs to be integrated into your website from day one to ensure your business has the greatest chance of success.
